Wally the walrus wanted one thing: the world's widest watermelon. He would walk for weeks to find it.
"Wally!" called his friend Wendy the wombat. "Where are you wandering off to?"
Wally waved. "I'm going west to find a wonderful watermelon!"
Wendy wiggled her nose. "Wait! I will come with you."
So Wally and Wendy went on their way. They walked over wet rocks and waded through warm water.
"I wonder when we'll find the watermelon," whispered Wendy.
"We won't give up," Wally said with a wise nod.
As they walked into the woods, they saw Wayne the wolf wearing a white wig!
"Why are you wearing that?" asked Wally.
Wayne winked. "I'm going to a wedding. Would you like to come?"
Wally and Wendy were willing, but they still wanted to find the watermelon.
"Is there food at this wedding?" asked Wendy.
"Yes!" said Wayne. "The best watermelons you've ever seen!"
Wally's whiskers twitched with excitement. "Let's go!"
They followed Wayne to a wide meadow. There was a wooden stage where two woodpeckers were getting married.
And wow! On a long table were twenty watermelons! Each one was wider than Wally's wingspan!
"These are wonderful!" Wally cried.
The woodpeckers welcomed them to the wedding. Everyone ate watermelon and danced until the sun went down.
When it was time to go home, the woodpeckers gave Wally the widest watermelon as a gift.
"Best wish ever!" said Wally, as he, Wendy, and Wayne rolled the watermelon all the way home.
